About Us
All Saints' Church was built in 1878 on land given by Mr. Walter Chamberlain Hemming of Spring Grove. With it, he gave the surrounding land, which had been used as a burial ground for the people of Wribbenhall since 1866. It replaced the old Christ Church, which dated from 1701.
The people of Wribbenhall needed a new church because Christ Church was built on land which had been bought in 1728 by the then Lord Foley and in 1750, after a row with the parishioners about who should hold the keys he had one door padlocked and another walled up!! He claimed it was private property and he could do as he liked. The matter was referred to the Attorney General and he ruled in favour of the parishioners. The church continued to be used but it, and the surrounding grounds, were not consecrated until 1841. With the building of the new church it was pulled down and the original baptismal font moved to its new home.
The consecration of All Saints' Church took place on the Eve of All Saints in 1879. Visitors will feel an immediate sense of warmth and welcome from the glorious stained glass windows of various saints and Bible scenes.
Today All Saints is a lively vibrant Church family, which follows the traditional form of Anglican worship, without being at all formal and stuffy! It is a prominent building in the heart of Wribbenhall, frequented by many for services, musical and social events. It is on the same site as Wribbenhall Parish Rooms and Wribbenhall Social Club.
We are part of a benefice (a group of churches sharing a Vicar) with the neighbouring parish of Bewdley.
Services are held every Sunday at 9.30 am, with Holy Communion three times per month and a once monthly service of readings, prayers and hymns - check the calendar to find out which of these is happening on any given Sunday. You are most welcome to come along.
Please note that when there is a fifth Sunday in the month we often join with our sister churches, so there may not be any service at All Saints on those days.
People like our church for many different reasons - its friendliness, music, service-style, and the wonderful calm atmosphere inside the building.
You're very welcome to visit any time we're open, and we aim to be open as much as possible - see 'services and events.'
The church is available for Christenings, and for smaller funerals. We aim to reopen for weddings as soon as possible.
The Churchyard is open for visiting and tending of graves, for burials in existing graves only, and for interments of ashes. Please note that any monument or tribute (apart from fresh flowers) requires specific permission from the Rector before being placed on a grave.
