“A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children’s story in the slightest.”
Following the appearance of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 1950, the seven books in C S Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia have enchanted children and adults alike for well over half a century. Lewis was a theologian who wrote mainly for adults but also knew how to make Christian themes central to exciting stories for young children. Many of the themes in books that we read as children go on to shape our adult thinking, and returning as adults to the good books we enjoyed when we were young can open up new layers of meaning and insight into what we believe and how we live out our faith.
On each of the five Tuesdays in Lent we shall be getting together to talk about the spiritual aspects of the Narnia Chronicles. Everyone is welcome. There will be in-person sessions at 3.00pm, with a similar session on Zoom at 7.00pm - if necessary, you can mix and match the time you join in. If you don't already have the Zoom password, please contact the Vicar in advance.
Before the course starts, please re-read (or read for the first time) The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
