Maundy Thursday

Occuring
for 4 hours
Venue
York Minster
Address
Deangate York, YO1 7HH, United Kingdom

On Maundy Thursday we contemplate Christ’s call to service as he washed his disciples’ feet and give thanks for the gift of Holy Communion as we remember the Last Supper.

5.30pm: Choral Evensong
Choral Evensong is sung daily during Holy Week by the Choir of York Minster.

7pm: Eucharist of the Last Supper
The Eucharist of the Last Supper recalls the final meal Jesus shared with his disciples in the upper room, before his arrest and trial. We remember that Jesus called us to love and serve one another through the washing of feet.
As we bless bread and wine, we follow his command to proclaim his death until he comes in glory.
The sermon will be delivered by Rhidian Brook, the Holy Week Preacher.

8.30pm: The Watch
The Watch will follow the Eucharist of the last Supper. The Watch – a type of vigil – recalls the time Jesus spent in the Garden of Gethsemane before his arrest, trial and crucifixion.

York Minster

York Minster is one of the world’s most magnificent cathedrals.

Since the 7th century, the Minster has been at the centre of Christianity in the north of England and today remains a thriving church rooted in the daily offering of worship and prayer. The Minster was built for the glory of God. Every aspect of this ancient building - from the exquisite, handcrafted stone through to the unrivalled collection of medieval stained glass - tells the story of Jesus Christ. We invite you to discover this sacred place and the love of God at its heart, which has attracted people from across the globe for more than 1000 years.
