Heritage weekend took place on the 20th & 21st September. Sunday was a busy and sunny day with over 190 visitors . This year Amanda, a 14th Century peasant girl led children's activities 14th Century style! Lots of drawing / colouring on vellum scrolls, making lavender bags and lots more ! The original foot print of the 12th Century Premonstratensian Abbey was marked out to scale and the Abbey opened its doors to lots of local folk who had never been inside the 17th Century Chapel.
Heritage concluded with a glorious Choral Evensong which took place at 3pm. Many thanks to the choir from St James Norton and to Revd Toby Hole for leading the service. Visitor comments : "Evensong was glorious for us and never have we felt so involved, and inspired. The integration of hymns, choir pieces, readings and sermon were organic and meaningful in such an intermate setting"
Whatever we may believe, choral evensong is a beautiful service with over 500 years of tradition just waiting to be witnessed that can give respite and inspiration during our busy modern lives.
We will be opening for Heritage next year in the mean time the Abbey is open every Sunday - all welcome. See services and events.
