People of Poslingford: Pumpkins, Poppies and Plenty of Community Spirit!
There’s always something happening in Poslingford, where a simple get-together can turn into a lovely afternoon of laughter, conversation, new friendships and, of course, tea, coffee and cake!
It’s been another wonderful year for our village, with residents coming together to enjoy a variety of events and make the most of the friendly community spirit that makes Poslingford such a special place to live.
A pumpkin with a winning weight!
October brought a little friendly competition as we gathered to weigh pumpkins grown right here in the village. From unusual shapes to impressive sizes, there was plenty to admire, but one pumpkin came out on top.
Congratulations to David Jones of Poslingford, whose pumpkin weighed an impressive 5.9 kilos to claim this year’s winning title!
Congratulations to Monica & Louise, who also received a prize.
A big thank you goes to Chipley Abbey Farm for kindly lending us the scales, and to Ellie for providing a delicious cake to add to the occasion. Good company and homemade cake are certainly a winning combination!
Getting ready for Christmas
With autumn well underway, thoughts are already turning to Christmas. We have more village fun planned, including a get-together to make Christmas decorations. It will be a chance to get creative, share ideas and enjoy some festive company, with tea, coffee and cake on hand as usual. Details will follow, and everyone is welcome.
Remembering together
November is also a time for reflection, as we come together to remember those who gave their lives in service.
Our Remembrance Day service will take place at 12 noon at the war memorial by the church, and everyone is warmly invited to attend.
As part of the commemoration, you are welcome to paint a poppy on a stone and bring it along to be laid at the memorial. It is a simple but meaningful way to contribute to this special occasion. Afterwards, we will gather in the church for refreshments and a chance to spend time together.
Small acts of kindness make a big difference
Our Community Pantry has continued to benefit from the generosity of local residents, with many lovely contributions received throughout the year. Every donation is greatly appreciated and is a reminder of how much can be achieved when people look out for one another.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has attended our events, offered a helping hand or contributed to the pantry. It is the people who make a community, and every contribution helps keep village life thriving.
From growing pumpkins to remembering together and preparing for Christmas, there is always a reason to come together in Poslingford. We look forward to welcoming familiar faces and new friends to our next event — and who knows what stories we will have to share next time!
