William Sancroft’s Sunday.
A SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION
according to the Book of Common Prayer, in honour of the life and witness of William Sancroft, 1617-1693
Sunday 15th November, 10.30am in Fressingfield Parish Church.
Our benefice is named after him, his family home is known as Ufford Hall and his tomb is in Fressingfield churchyard. We are planning to commemorate the man who became not just a priest or a Dean or even a Bishop but who became the Archbishop of Canterbury, in a special Communion Service on Sunday 15th November.
Among the tasks that William Sancroft was asked to undertake, was editing the revised version of the Book of Common Prayer, finally in 1662. Appropriately therefore, on the Sunday closest to his anniversary, we shall use that same service book for our worship. The text is included in our regular benefice service book but usually now confined to the monthly early morning Holy Communion services at Withersdale Church. On the 15th November however, we will include hymns and readings chosen especially for such an occasion, together with a short commentary around some of the less familiar elements. Come and help us celebrate Fressingfield’s most famous son who would have worshipped here, at St Peter and St Paul, at intervals throughout his life.
