Harmonious Thursdays: Celebrating a Season of Music at St Elwyn’s

As the golden autumn light fills the nave of St Elwyn’s, we look back on what has been a truly remarkable 2026 season for our Thursday Lunchtime Concert Series. Over the past months, our historic church has resonated with an extraordinary diversity of music, bringing our community together every Thursday between 12:30 pm and 1:15 pm to pause, reflect, and enjoy world-class talent right here in Hayle.

From May through to October, audiences were treated to a rich tapestry of performances. We listened to exquisite classical recitals from the Trevensen Duo and the Kenwyn Trio, as well as delicate woodwind and flute duos featuring Tri Howarth, and Force Five. Our sacred space echoed with the solo piano mastery of Peter Luing, Philip Dyson, and John Shirley, alongside majestic organ pieces from Alastair Johnston.

A particular highlight of the season was the phenomenal youthful talent of Alfie and Jenny from Truro Cathedral, who delivered a absolute masterclass across piano, violin, and saxophone. Audiences were also captivated by Rico Gerber’s adventurous recitals including his delicate, transportive performance of traditional Chinese pieces which brought an evocative, shimmering palette of pentatonic melodies and meditative timbres to our acoustic space.

Vocal highlights lifted our spirits throughout the summer, featuring sopranos Lucy Clitheroe and Taylor London, vocal duets by Liz Chivers and Karen Abbott, and energetic choral performances by the Stithians Ladies Choir, the Mabe Ladies Choir. The vibrant, sweeping sounds of the Celtic Fiddlers string orchestra ensured there was genuinely something for everyone.
These weekly recitals have done far more than offer sublime midday entertainment; they have served as a vibrant bridge between our church and the wider community. Admission has remained completely free, ensuring that high-quality live music remains accessible to everyone. The generous donations received at the door continue to play a vital role in supporting the upkeep and preservation of St Elwyn’s, ensuring this sacred landmark remains open, warm, and welcoming for generations to come.

As our season concludes anticipation is already building for what lies ahead. We are delighted to share that planning for our next season is well underway, and music lovers won't have to wait long for recitals to resume.
Be sure to keep a close eye on our weekly pew sheets and notice boards for details on our upcoming Winter Season, which kicks off in style with a special Flute Concert on Sunday, 22nd November.

On behalf of the Godrevy Team Ministry and everyone at St Elwyn’s, a heartfelt thank you goes out to Terry, our organizers, and all the brilliant musicians who shared their gifts with us this season.. Most importantly, thank you to our faithful audience whose presence and generosity make these concerts such an uplifting part of parish life.
