There was the usual weeding of some of the graves and a check of the flint walls with the removal of any ivy or plants that were starting to take root in them. The main focus, however, was the gravel path from the church entrance to the gate on the north side. Looking at old aerial photographs from the 1990’s, the path used to be wide enough for two people to easily walk side by side. Over the years it has gradually narrowed such that in places it is barely wide enough for one person to walk along. Armed with pegs, string, edging tools and sharp spades the team set to work to cut back one edge as a starting point. Surprisingly the turf yielded a significant amount of gravel so that once cut back the gravel path started to emerge. More work is to be done throughout the winter months, but it was an impressive start, rewarded by coffee, cake and a chat afterwards.
