As many people in the local area will have seen, Kirkley Rectory has been placed on the market by the diocese.
This does not mean that the Church will be closing, the Rectory is merely the house that comes with the post of Rector of Kirkley.
The Rectory was built in the 1890's and is unfortunately no longer fit for purpose. the building itself costs as much to heat per month as the church across the road, there are damp issues and the whole building needs a lot of love and attention to bring it up to the standards set for clergy housing.
So what does this mean? This means that whoever gets the position of Rector of Kirkley will be living in a different house, somewhere in the parish. That will be a choice for the diocese to make, rather than something that is made at a parish level.
So in short... Rectory up for sale, Church not closing and still very much there for the community of Kirkley.
