Danby Wiske Church Building Preservation Fund
This Grade 1 listed, historical building is maintained by the generosity of individuals, fund raising events and grants from trusts.
A building of this age needs constant attention, so that it can remain open for the community and visitors.
Highlights of recent work:
Cleaning-
High level internally in addition to normal cleaning.
Decorating –
removing loose finishes, replacing plaster; and painting with breathable materials (nearly complete).
Historical Artwork-
Exposed medieval and Post reformation artwork (revealed during decoration) has been inspected by an accredited conservator, who will be returning to do preservation work.
Bell Tower-
Emergency repairs in the belfry
Changed stays, renovated the service bell
Re-carpeted the ringing room and a host of other bell maintenance activities
Short term work
Replacement of tower roof felt, and some roof tile repairs
Replacing corroded guttering.
Installing a handrail in the tower.
Next priorities
Repair of the main arch, it has been inspected by a structural engineer and is being monitored for movement.
Create a long term plan for the building.
