Have you ever considered becoming a church bell ringer?
Church bell ringing is an interesting hobby and has many aspects that will suit many people, young and old. We currently have ringers from teenagers to in their seventies. There are local ringers still ringing in their eighties and beyond.
Ringers can do as much or as little as they like and it does not require much physical fitness. If you can climb the spiral staircase and can raise your arms above your head you can ring church bells.
Bell ringing is good exercise for body and mind and is a very cheap hobby, you don’t need to buy anything and there are no fees.
Once you can ring you can turn up to most churches with bells and join in. It’s a very sociable hobby and people are always welcoming to visitors. There are also occasional social events with other towers.
Ringers don’t have to be churchgoers and most of the Wing bell ringers don’t attend church services.
All Saints church in Wing has a practice every Friday between 7:30 and 9:00pm and new ringers are always welcome. Come along and give it a try.
