Sunday 8th June 2025
This Sunday, we come to the great feast of Pentecost—the moment the Church received her first breath, not in a cathedral or committee meeting, but in wind, flame and a cacophony of languages. It’s a birthday party like no other—and you're warmly invited.
In our reading from Acts 2, the disciples are filled with the Holy Spirit and begin speaking in tongues—not to confuse, but to connect. In my sermon this week, I’ll be sharing a story from my travels to New York City—of incense, Cantonese liturgy, and a rubbing of a Chinese stone stele from 781 AD. A Pentecost in stone. Because, you see, the Spirit didn’t retire after Jerusalem. He’s still on the move—across continents, cultures, and yes, even cul-de-sacs.
This Sunday also marks the launch of “Service Sunday” for our Flight group (older children/youth), where they will be actively serving in various roles during the service—welcoming, reading, AV, assisting at the altar and more. This is a way for us to affirm their place in the worshipping life of our church and support their growth in faith and responsibility. Look out for them in their bright red ‘StJ’ t-shirts and do encourage them as they step up to serve. After the service, the group will gather for pizza and fellowship in the cottage.
Let’s keep them in prayer as we celebrate Pentecost Sunday—trusting that God is doing a new thing among us!
