Sunday 7th September 2025
Dear friends,
This Sunday, we continue our journey through Luke’s Gospel with Jesus’ challenging words in Luke 14.25–33, as I ask: what does the sign of the cross really mean? It’s a timely question, with St. George’s crosses fluttering from flagpoles and cars across the country. But beyond sport and nationhood, the cross stands at the heart of our spiritual heritage—it marks us as disciples of Jesus, called to follow him not with half-hearted nods, but with whole lives given over in love and faith.
And speaking of heritage—this year we celebrate a milestone close to home: 170 years since Woodley CofE School first opened right here in our Church Centre. Generations of children have passed through those doors, their lives shaped by faith, learning and community. To mark this wonderful occasion, we invite you, your family and your friends to join us for our Heritage Open Day on Saturday 13th September, at the Church Centre. Come and explore displays, memories, and stories of the past that continue to inspire our present.
So, do bring along someone new this Sunday. After all, the cross is not just a sign—it is an invitation.
With every blessing, Mark
