Sunday 21st September 2025

This coming Sunday we’ll be welcoming Revd. Richard Christopher, who will be leading our service and reflecting on Jesus’ call of Matthew, the tax collector (Matthew 9:9–13). It’s a moment where Jesus turns social expectations upside down—choosing not the pious or the powerful, but an outcast at the tax booth, and then sharing a meal with “sinners.” Through it, Jesus reminds us that he has come not for the respectable but for the real—for those who know their need of mercy.

The day before, on Saturday 20th September at 9.00am, we’ll be hosting Prayers for Woodley here at St. John’s. It’s always encouraging to see brothers and sisters from different churches coming together to pray for our town. If you’ve never been before, why not join us this time?

Do come along on Sunday and perhaps bring a friend. These parables of Jesus have a way of making us think and sometimes laugh, but always draw us back to the God who is worth trusting with our whole lives.

Every blessing, Mark
