This Sunday we reach Candlemas, that moment in the Church’s year when Christmas light is carried into the everyday world. Our readings speak of God drawing near — not always loudly, but always purposefully — recognised by those who have learned how to wait and to watch.

It is fitting, then, that this Sunday we also begin our Bells Restoration Appeal. Church bells have long been the Church’s simplest sermon: they do not explain or persuade, they simply sound, marking prayer, joy and grief, and carrying the life of worship beyond our walls. When bells ring, they say to the world, God is near.

You would be very welcome to join us this Sunday at St John’s as we worship together and begin this next chapter in our common life. Do bring friends and family — especially those who might need a quiet reminder that hope often arrives more gently than expected.
