Work commenced on the refurbishment of the clock faces on 21st August 2023 and was completed on 1st September by The Cumbria Clock Company using Rope Access Equipment. You may have seen two men dangling from our tower during this time.

The present clock was installed in 1775 and renovated in 1894, almost 130 years ago. The Friends of St Lawrence began fundraising for the project to restore the clock faces and associated mechanisms directly behind the faces in order for the clocks to continue to be an important feature for our village and to benefit future generations.

The Friends of St Lawrence fundraised by appealing to people to sponsor dots and numerals as well as gathering support from businesses and organisations. In total over £15,000 was raised for the work.

After cleaning and preparation work, 23 ¾ carat double thickness English Gold Leaf was applied to the relevant parts. We now have beautiful new clock faces which will also work perfectly for years to come.
