At its meeting in July the PCC of Sandon with Burston considered the lack of demand for worship at St Rufin’s, both now and in the future, the costs of keeping the building open, any possible alternative use, and the nearby alternative of All Saints Church Sandon for worship. The PCC reluctantly resolved to close St Rufin’s Church following the October service and ask the Diocese to sell the building, in accordance with the PCC’s charitable responsibilities. Following the meeting the PCC wrote to every household in Burston to advise of the decision and the reasons behind it. The future use of the building will be determined by any individual or organisation which acquires the building. 

The Bishop of Stafford will hold a Service of Thanksgiving at St Rufin’s at 7-00pm on Wednesday 28th October 2026
