Parts of the present church of St Andrew in Weston have been standing since the twelfth century, but there has been a church of some kind, on this site since its recording in the doomsday book of 1086. Apart from a place of worship, it is the most fascinating place of history in our village, open to all.
Following our Quinquennial Inspection at St. Andrew’s Church recently, we have received a report that specifies an alarming amount of work that needs to be carried out, inside church and to the roof in particular amounting to thousands of pounds. To this end, the Church Council have embarked on another round of fundraising and we ask that you as residents, support as many events as possible in order that the costs may be met. If you would like to fundraise on our behalf, or feel able to be a regular giver, please speak to either churchwardens, Gill or Kate, or our Treasurer Peter Gloyne.
Events like the Cake Sale, Quiz Night, Open Gardens and many more events organized by the Church Council throughout the year, raise vital funds to keep our village church open as a place of worship, community and care, offering weddings, baptisms and funerals too. Fundraising and donations help us cover essential weekly costs such as heating/lighting, cleaning, maintenance and Insurance all of which equate to £515.00 per week. Fundraising events, with your support help us to bridge the gap and ensure St Andrew’s church remains open and active for everyone in our community, both now and in the future. Please continue to support church events.
In this month’s magazine you will find a book of Raffle Tickets, for raising funds in aid of St. Andrew’s Church. Please buy the tickets and return the stubs for inclusion in the draw which will take place at the Harvest Festival service on 5th October.
