Wardens weekly message for the second week of November

Latest news from the Parish of Goring by Sea. 5th November, 2020.

Parish Office. Email: [email protected] Tel: 01903 709163

Whilst it is such a shame that we are ‘paused’ from worshiping together in church we give thanks to God for our ability to continue worshiping digitally and that our churches can remain open for prayer.

Open for Prayer

St Mary’s Church is open for prayer every day from 10 am to 3 pm.

St Laurence’s Church can be opened by request.

[email protected] or telephone 01903 620080 or 07860 641915

For all the saints, who from their labours rest,

who thee by faith before the world confessed,

thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest.

Alleluia!

If our worship has to pause for lockdown again our last Sunday could not have been on a more blessed Sunday. With three beautiful and contrasting services we celebrated All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days. We commemorated our departed family and friends at the 8.00 am Eucharist and at a special service of commemoration at 3.00 pm. An appropriately lively All Age Worship focused on All Saints’ Day and within the constraints of social distancing the church was at near maximum capacity, with a congregation from ranging ‘8 months to 80 years’.

Advent Study Groups

Is there a better way of preparing for Christmas during this lock down period, than to

join an Advent Study Group? There are four opportunities to join a group. All groups

will be meeting via Zoom and this is also possible via the telephone as well as the

Internet. Fr. Keith, Fr. Neill, Fr. David and our reader Keith Lelliott will lead the groups

with an assistant leader.

We will be using the ‘Light in the Darkness’ materials, from the Diocese of Sheffield.

It speaks to our present situation, and encourages us to reflect upon it, while looking

forward in hope. It is simple in structure, has a good engagement with holy scripture,

and we are confident that it will facilitate prayer and stimulate fruitful discussion.

The material itself is free, and comes in a printable PDF format.
