Advent begins Sunday 29th November 2020

Advent is the beginning of our liturgical year, a time of expectant waiting and preparation for both the celebration of the Nativity of Christ at Christmas and the return of Christ at the Second Coming. Here are two ways, in addition to our special services on the 29th. November that you might prepare during advent:

From Traidcraft - The Injustice Advent Calendar

After a difficult year, what better way to count down to Christmas than by

making the world a better place? The premise is simple: for 24 days, you get

the chance to take an action, which makes the world a little bit brighter!

Every day during advent there will be a task – it will always be free and will

always take less than five minutes to complete. This year, there will be

contributions from the Children’s Society. Fashion Revolution, Anti-Slavery

International, Tearfund and many others.

Advent Study Groups – Its not too late to join this course – which starts next week !

Is there a better way of preparing for Christmas during this lock down period,

than to join an Advent Study Group? There are four opportunities to join a

group. All groups will be meeting via Zoom and this is also possible via the

telephone as well as the Internet. Fr. Keith, Fr. Neill, Fr. David and our reader

Keith Lelliott will lead the groups with an assistant leader.

We will be using the ‘Light in the Darkness’ materials, from the Diocese of

Sheffield. It speaks to our present situation, and encourages us to reflect upon

it, while looking forward in hope. It is simple in structure, has a good

engagement with holy scripture, and we are confident that it will facilitate prayer

and stimulate fruitful discussion.

The material itself is free, and comes in a printable PDF format.
