Latest Report on  27.10.2025 :  The new roof work is almost finished. Our wonderful workforce from Lion Roofing have been working apace and have been helped along most of the time thanks to clement weather. ( See the new photo ) The great skill in this work has been to avoid the roof looking like " a sparkling new roof ". Instead we have a new roof that blends in with the age of the building.

We have been fundraising in earnest since being told at our last Quinquennial Inspection that we must serious consider e-tiling the entire roof to protect the church interior, having had serious ceiling plaster falls during Covid, caused by gradual water ingress. The repairs for that work vitually wiped our bank balance clean and so fundraising continued towards getting the roof done. At last, early this year having raised a considerable sum towards the approximate £80,000 + required, we were in a position to apply for grants from Charity Organisations that support Church Buildings. We managed to raise £20,500 through these grants and we are extremely grateful to the National Churches Trust who helped us through the support of The Woolfson Foundation and The Headley Trust to receive a grant of £10,500. We received the remaining £20,000 of grants from Sussex Historic Churches Trust : Ian M Foulerton Trust : The John Booth Charitable Foundation : Ascot Priory and Benefact Trust. Our gratitude and thanks to all of them along with our wonderful congregation, our supporters, our "Friends of St. Leonard's Church, South Stoke ".

And so, the work has begun this week (22.09.2025) on the Chancel Roof which when complete, will be followed immediately by the work on the Nave. All being well, particularly the weather which has been kind so far this week, we hope the job will be completed by the end of October, if not before.
