Eucharist
The Eucharist is celebrated daily at St. John's Mortimer.
Monday and Wednesday at 9.15 am and Tuesday at 7.30 am. On Thursday, Holy Hour will begin at 9.00 am and conclude with the Eucharist.
HOLY HOUR - SILENT PRAYER AND REFLECTION BEFORE THE BLESSED SACRAMENT FOLLOWED BY THE EUCHARIST.
This is a traditional opportunity to spend some quiet time in prayer together in the Eucharistic presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Holy Hour has its origins in Jesus' own words to his disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane the night before his crucifixion: ‘Could you not watch with me one hour?’ (Matthew 26:40). People use the Holy Hour time differently, but for some it is an opportunity:
First to quiet our minds, acknowledge God's presence and pray;
Second, worship as in focussing purely on God for who he is and giving thanks for who he is;
Third, reflect on our own shortcomings, ask for forgiveness, and ask for strength to repent and start again;
Fourth, rest in silent presence, perhaps reading scripture or listening quietly to God;
Fifth, express our gratitude for specific blessings and gifts in our life;
Sixth, pray for the needs of our family, our friends, our parish church, and our wider world.
We conclude with the Eucharist and Holy Communion.

All Souls' Requiem and Eucharist - All are invited to this annual service when we remember with thanksgiving & prayer all our loved ones, family & friends, who have died & gone before us into God’s nearer presence. St. John's church Christmas Bazaar
The season of Advent marks the start of the Christian year & is a season of expectation & hope. It is also the transition from one lectionary cycle to the next. This coming year we will be following the Gospel of Mark. The Advent Procession will take place at 6 pm at St. John’s, Mortimer followed by the Blessing & Lighting of the Christmas Tree on the Fairground at 7pm. All welcome.
The Carol Service - Festival of Lesson and Carols
You are invited to share in the hope and joy of the Advent journey and to anticipate the birth of Jesus at the Advent Workshop in St John’s church on Tuesday 22nd December from 9.45am – 11.45 am. The morning will begin with songs and carols, story and poetry. After refreshments, there will be crafts. Please bring a named bag for carrying your crafts.
