Harvest is a joyful time in the church year when we come together to celebrate God’s goodness and provision. It’s a moment to pause, reflect on the many blessings in our lives, and to offer our thanks. Traditionally, we bring gifts of food and produce to share with others, reminding us that everything we have comes from God and that we are called to care for those in need. These gifts are then shared with local charities and food banks, extending the blessing beyond our church walls.

If you’ve never been to a Harvest service before, expect a warm welcome, familiar hymns of praise, and a wonderful sense of community. It’s a family-friendly occasion where people of all ages join together in thanksgiving.

Bessingham provides a beautiful and fitting setting for our Harvest service, where the gathering of friends, neighbours and newcomers makes the celebration even more special. Whether you come with gifts to share, or simply with a heart ready to give thanks, you will be part of a meaningful act of worship and gratitude

Bessingham: St Mary

This is one of the most delightfully set of churches, a little round towered church set above the narrow lanes of its parish in the deepest Norfolk countryside. The tower is of the 11th Century, and Pevsner compares the bell openings with those at Haddiscoe, observing that this is what the tower there might have been like before its later elaboration. The upper stage is largely constructed out of carstone, the gingerbread coloured stone found in the west of Norfolk. The church beside the tower is an almost complete rebuild of the 1870s, the 15th Century roodscreen being relocated to the great church at nearby Baconsthorpe where it now sits in the north aisle.

Currently this church is interregnum (that is without a vicar) so services are presided by the Rural Dean, Revd David Longe.
