Christmas is over and the jollity has faded somewhat – the nights are long and the days short and cold and spring (let alone summer) is a dot in the distant future – what is one to do to lift the mood? Well… At Thorpe Market Church we want to invite you to our Snowdrop Sundays – this year on the 2nd, 9th, 16th & 23rd February between 12 & 4pm. There is ample parking and you are sure of a welcome in the warm church by our wonderful volunteers. There will be an art exhibition by different artists on each weekend as well as the chance to browse the second-hand books and relax with friends over hot drinks and our famed home-made cakes before (or after or both!) a gentle walk around the churchyard to see our annual display of nature’s early flowering – the snowdrops. Our artists this year, who are showing on both the Saturday and Sunday of the snowdrop weekends, are: Saturday 31st January & Sunday 1st February - East Coast Artz a group of local artists, who have regular exhibitions at the church, will be showing a diverse range of paintings, prints, cards, textiles, crafts and driftwood sculptures, often inspired by the local environment. Sunday 8th February - Rosalie Osborne-Gibb exhibits regularly at St Margaret’s and we are pleased to welcome her once again. With her love and inspiration of coast and countryside, from surf and sunsets to wildlife and landscapes, she will be showing the many aspects of her art in a bright and colourful exhibition. More about Rosalie is at https://www.rosaliegibbart.com/about Please note Sunday only and as there is a church service please arrive for 12 noon. Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th February – Amanda Springall-Rogers will be showing alongside two other painters and a textile artist. Amanda’s work reflects the beauty, wonder and detail of the natural world. Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd February (and continuing until Saturday February 28th) Denise Comberton, Elizabeth & Vicky Williams will be showing painting and glass works. This is the first time they have shown at Thorpe Market.Members from the Norfolk Wherry Trust will also be in attendance who can talk with you about the fantastic work of their volunteers in protecting and promoting five of the last eight remaining wherries - and you can decide to volunteer and spend the summer on and around the Broads helping to spread the good word about these beautiful craft. There will also be musical interludes from Alan Morris on the church’s Norwich organ and maybe the odd guest singer.
