LETTER FROM REVD LOUISE

Dear Friends,

This is our double edition Magazine for the summer and it gives me an opportunity to thank Steve very much for his hard work editing each month. And also, to Mary who prints it for us. We really appreciate the hard work you both put into this. Thank you also to our distributors and our advertisers.

As we head into the next couple of months, we see the opportunity for many weeks of football and tennis! Don’t let them stop you coming along to our Songs of Praise service on July 5th at 3pm in St Andrew’s. Or enjoying the concert we have on July 19th, 4pm at St Peter’s. This will feature both our own Community Choir, as well as members of the Music Man project. Finally, we invite you to a Quiz Night on July 25th at St Peter’s. Thank you to all who will help with these special occasions.

As in previous years, we are invited to join with other local churches for evening services during August (please see the service list for details). Unfortunately, it won’t be possible to host a service this year (too many churches, not enough Sundays!) but I hope we will make every effort to share in worship with other Christians during that month. A note to those who love to attend our Taizé services, the next one will be in September.

Some of us will be having some time away this summer and I hope you have some very blessed and peaceful days, wherever you go. It is good from time to time, to interrupt our routines and to reflect on how we spend our time. Perhaps we have got into bad habits of midnight snacking or endless scrolling. Perhaps the change in pace that many of us enjoy in the summer, can lead to new thoughts and ideas. New books to read. New moments to pray and spend time with God. It’s lovely and warm in St Andrew’s at the moment, how about making a space in your week to come and enjoy the peace and quiet in there? It’s unlocked all day. Or have a look at the list of Daily Prayer dates and come along to Morning or Evening Prayer? You will be very welcome.

And as we slow down, perhaps we will notice the longings of our hearts: what is it we really what in life? A yearning for peace, calmness, love? May it be that we find them in the God of love and compassion.

This is what the Sovereign Lord, says: In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength. Isaiah 30:15
