What do we believe?
The heart of the Gospel we believe and preach is that Jesus Christ is the perfect revelation of God and that through his birth, life, death and resurrection he has won for us life in its fullness - both now and in eternity.
Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit to give us life today and we see the power of the Spirit working in the Church through the Bible, through our experience of prayer and through the seven sacraments. We encounter Jesus day by day through the offering of the sacrifice of the Holy Mass where we meet with the real presence of Jesus and receive his love and his forgiveness.
We worship God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit and believe that the offering of our worship is the highest calling that we have as Christians.
Each Sunday we recite the Nicene Creed which is summary of the Christian Faith we believe.
Nicene Creed
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,the Lord, the giver of life,who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Revised Catechism
If you want to explore what we believe further you might want to explore the Revised Catechism of the Church of England that lays out the core of what we believe in question and answer form.
You will find a copy of that below. Do get in touch with us if you have any questions or would like to explore things further.
