Faith, mission and ministry

Many people love this prayer written by the American Trappist monk Thomas Merton. It places into God's hands our faith and trust, as well as confusion and lack of understanding. If the words resonate with you, then, as well as read them, pray them; make them your own and say amen.

“My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.”

Over the coming weeks we will add much more to this site such as who we are, what we believe in, information about services, how our five churches have distinctive identities, and so on. More to be added soon. In the meantime, here are the Anglican Marks of Mission, which are so integral to our belief:

The Five Marks of Mission:

The mission of the Church is the mission of Christ

  1. To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
  2. To teach, baptise and nurture new believers
  3. To respond to human need by loving service
  4. To transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and pursue peace and reconciliation
  5. To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth
