Tomorrow 28 September we will be celebrating our Patronal Festival, the feast of St Michael and All Angels. Our readings celebrate the angels of God in all their forms, first in Jacob's vision of the angelic host ascending and descending a ladder stretching from earth to heaven, then in the book of Revelation, when Michael the Archangel and his angels fight a war against Satan who is cast out of heaven and comes down to earth. In the Gospel Jesus tells Nathanael that he will see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man, echoing Jacob's vision from so many centuries before. These are not the cosy little angels we see on cards and in some art; 'he makes his angels spirits, and his ministers a flaming fire'. The Jacob Epstein sculpture of St Michael vanquishing the Devil on the wall of Coventry Cathedral is a far more accurate depiction!
Come and join us at 10.30 a.m. at our Parish Mass with Canon Ade Ademola as we celebrate this great feast, and join us in the Parish Centre for a bring and share lunch afterwards! All are welcome!
