Good Friday: The Three Hours

Occurring
for 3 hours
Venue
Leicester Cathedral (Cathedral Church of St Martin)
Address
Peacock Lane Leicester, LE1 5FX, United Kingdom

A three-hour devotion with prayers, hymns, music, addresses, and silence, as we contemplate the suffering and death of Jesus, who becomes on the cross the Bread of Life: broken for the whole world, broken and shared even for us in today's age.

At the Three Hours Service, we commemorate the three hours that Christ suffered on the cross. We hear again the story of Judas' betrayal, Jesus' arrest and trial, and Peter's denial of Jesus, before we reach Jesus' crucifixion and death. During this time, music is interspersed between contemplative reflections, prayers and silences.

You are welcome to join us for all or part of this service on Good Friday. There is no charge to attend our services, all are welcome. Please note the Cathedral is closed to visiting during this service.

Leicester Cathedral (Cathedral Church of St Martin)

Leicester's Cathedral is at the beating heart of the city and county. A place of calm and transcendence, and the final resting place of King Richard III. Join us online at www.leicestercathedral.org

Our church, built on a Roman site and dedicated to St Martin of Tours, has been embedded in the public, economic, cultural and religious life of this community for over 1,000 years. Since 1927, as the seat of the Bishop of Leicester, we now gather people together for worship, celebration, lament, debate and service of the poor and vulnerable.

We offer hospitality to the wider church, the communities of faith that make up our multicultural society and those who come as visitors to the East Midlands, especially in search of the story of King Richard III.

We invite you to join with us in this adventure.
