The Birmingham Cathedral Organ Open Day is a chance for anyone who wants to have a go on the organ to have a go.

Whether you are seasoned organist, a curious pianist or you are just interested in the organ, turn up and have a go. Any age or ability! This event forms part of the RCO (Royal College of Organists) Play The Organ Year.

This event is free and unticketed. Just turn up for your 5-10 minute slot, though you may have to wait if there are several people waiting to have a go.

Please treat the instrument with respect. Anyone who does not may be asked to stop. Though this event is free, we would encourage anyone who has a go to consider leaving a donation if they are able.

Birmingham Cathedral

Birmingham Cathedral is the oldest building in the city centre still used for it’s original purpose. We are home to some remarkable treasures and the largest green space in central Birmingham.

We are honoured to have four beautiful stained-glass windows, designed by Pre-Raphaelite artist Edward Burne-Jones, which were fully conserved and returned to their original glory in 2023.

We promote community cohesion through partnerships with faith groups, businesses, institutions, and charities, as well as undertaking an important civic role in the city.

We are free to visit, and all are welcome to attend services, light a candle, or simply enjoy our beautiful historic building. We also host a variety of different concerts and events throughout the year.

We also take bookings for group tours!

Safeguarding

Birmingham Cathedral Chapter place the safeguarding of all who worship at and visit Birmingham Cathedral as their highest priority. This particularly includes children and at risk adults.

As a Church of England Parish Church Cathedral we work closely with our Diocesan Safeguarding colleagues, which ensures our practices and policies are providing a safe environment for all.

The Cathedral Safeguarding Team is made up of both staff and volunteers, who meet quarterly to review best practice, policy and to ensure that safeguarding remains at the forefront of all our work and mission.

In 2016 Chapter commissioned an independent safeguarding audit, evidencing their commitment to ensuring safe practices. That audit formed the basis for an action plan which is an integral part of the Cathedral team’s review.

Any Safeguarding concerns should be reported to the Church of England Diocesan Safeguarding team.
