“A traditional service, mainly for adults – open to all”

The Nine follows the modern Church of England liturgy called ‘Common Worship’. It is structured and reflective service in the traditional way with hymns, songs, modern liturgy and relevant biblical teaching. On the first Sunday of the month we share in a service from the Book of Common Prayer, originally written in 1662 and still in use today! On other Sundays we follow a pattern of Morning Prayer and Holy Communion, lasting approximately one hour.

There is congregation of around 70 people and you’d be more than welcome to join us! We aim to finish by 10.00am to give time for coffee and chat with those arriving for ‘The Ten Thirty’.

House Group notes briefly outlining the sermon and associated questions are available to download. You can also listen to and/or download the sermon from this service.9am service

“Orientated towards families, open to all”

The Ten Thirty is a lively and uplifting service with a relaxed and open style of worship, combined with the relevant biblical teaching which is accompanied by weekly House Group Notes produced by the preacher. There is an emphasis on being open to God in prayer and ministry, as we seek to be equipped to live as contemporary Christians in our fast moving culture. Songs and hymns are led by the worship band and we also make space for testimony from the church family.

Our Ten Thirty service has a full programme for children and young people, aged 2 1/2 -13. Kids always start the service together with the wider church family, usually armed with tambourines and other musical instruments, before heading out to their groups (pebbles, rocks and boulders). We encourage the spiritual development of children of all ages, starting from the very youngest. Parents are always welcome into the groups to both settle their children and see what they are doing. Children are also welcome to remain in the church with their parents.

For those with much younger children, there’s a creche area with toys in church, so parents can stay and take part in the service while the children enjoy themselves. For more information check out the Families and Youth pages.

There’s usually about 80-100 people at this service and you’d be so welcome to join us! Although the service starts at 10:30am we encourage you to come earlier at 10am so that you can grab a coffee and chat to others from The Nine beforehand.

We follow a printed order of service most weeks as we sing, pray, read the scriptures and share together. We try to make time to pray for all those requesting prayer on our prayer board. We usually follow a theme or read our way through a biblical book over a number of weeks.

After the leader has introduced the passage we spend time discussing its meaning. For many people this service is like a House Group – an oasis in the middle of a busy week. We usually sit in a circle, apart for the third Wednesday of the month when we arrange the comfy chairs facing East in the chancel.

The service lasts for around forty five minutes and we share coffee together afterwards.

On the fifth Wednesday of the month at 10.00am we join with the congregation of our sister church down the road at St. John the Evangelist Bourne End for a service together.

Usual pattern:
1st Wednesday: Holy Communion. Sitting in the circle we sometime pass the bread and wine to each other.
2nd Wednesday: Morning Prayer.
3nd Wednesday: Book of Common Prayer Holy Communion.
4th Wednesday: Morning Prayer.
5th Wednesday: A United Service at St John’s Bourne End.
