On Saturday 13th September, Sue and Trina got on their bikes and Paul and Kirsty donned their walking boots to set off on the Beds & Herts Historic Churches Bike 'n Hike. It was a day of extremely mixed weather but that did not deter us. Sue and Trina, on behalf of St Mary the Virgin, Westmill, rode around the countryside until Sue's bike could go no further. Paul and Kirsty, on behalf of St Mary's, Aspenden and St Peter's, Buntingford walked 12 miles and visited 8 churches. We were very grateful to the churches who provided loo stops, and drinks and cakes. Thank you to everyone who sponsored this event. The funds are shared equally between the named chosen church and Beds & Herts Historic Churches Trust.
Another wonderful morning at St Mary the Virgin for their summer fayre. The Hoola Hoop Challenge and the Steak and Chips Challenge were brilliant fun. It was great to be in the sunshine with friends with a cuppa and delicious cake too.We are delighted to share this event raised £702 which goes directly to support the mission and ministry of our churches. Thank you again.
Work is well underway at St Peter's church in Buntingford. The parapet wall on the front of the church has been expertly restored. The wall needed to come down in order to replace the damp proof course. It has been been rebuilt and looks great. Internally, the concrete render is being removed from the walls. Concrete had commonly been used until it proved to be problematic for old buildings whose walls need to breathe. Concrete traps the moisture in the brickwork causing damp problems. Once these walls have dried out, lime-based mortar will be applied in layers before the whole church is redecorated. We are very grateful to the church team and building team who are enabling this vital work to progress. Thank you also to those who have supported our church financially. We couldn't do this without you.
