++THE INTERNATIONAL PEACE LIGHT++On Thursday evening 2nd Cuddington Scouts will collect the flame from the Peace Light when it arrives in Surrey and bring it to St Mary's. When you come into St Mary's, it will be the small candle burning at the High Altar. The light from this flame will also be conveyed to Guildford Cathedral.Since 1986 an Austrian Christian scout has travelled to Bethlehem, where there is a continuous flame at the site of the birth of Jesus. Then together with a Moslem and a Jewish scout the flame is carried in two blast proof miners lamps back to Vienna where it is distributed at a special service of dedication to Scouts and Guides to take it back with a message of peace to pass on in their own Countries. This year is poignant as it marks the UN International Year of Peace. The light will have travelled through many European Countries as well as Canada, North America and Mexico. It also is taken into Churches,,Schools, Hospitals and Old peoples homes..Our young people all over the World are actively taking part in an opportunity to celebrate global citizenship as they as Scouts and Guides reaffirm that peace is a fundamental Human right that we must uphold for one another ALWAYS.
