A group of Surrey faith leaders, Jewish, Muslim and Christian – together with supporters of the Surrey Interfaith Forum - met at the North West Surrey Synagogue on Tuesday 17 October, where they observed a time of silent prayer together to reflect with deep sadness on the events in Israel and Gaza over the past ten days.Following the prayer and time for discussion, the faith leaders agreed that we must not permit a proxy conflict to take root here, eroding the substantial efforts made over many years in fostering community and interfaith relations. In unity, they affirmed that all are made in the image of God, and that hatred and violence can never serve as a solution to the world's problems. The faith leaders additionally lent their support to all who work towards facilitating open and respectful dialogue, particularly in tackling antisemitism and islamophobia across our county.
