For as long as anyone can remember (maybe since the church was opened in 1859) a cedar tree has stood by the main road by the path to the church. It harboured wild life - on one occasion we had a tea and coffee stall underneath and a bird (probably a pigeon) managed to hit the teapot spout with a dropping. A recent survey by Runnymede Borough Council found that the tree was diseased and dangerous to passers-by and to traffic on the A328. So it was felled on Friday 16 January. The disease reached the roots and would affect the soil around, so the advice given to us is to plant nothing there for at least a year. We are grateful to the staff of RBC and to the felling contractors for their work.
