What better way to discuss a thought-provoking book than out on a countryside hilltop on a summer’s evening, looking out to the far horizon before the sun goes down. All are welcome at our monthly book group “Broad Horizons” on any or all the dates. We will share thoughts on some of the ideas presented in these varied titles, so do come along, no matter whether you’ve read the whole book, and whatever your thoughts may be.
Meet on the hilltop near the church. Best check nearer the time for any last-minute changes, though bad weather just means we might choose to move inside the church, closer to the kettle.
More info from Margaret on 07960 170006. Books to discuss this year include the following. If you struggle getting hold of any of the books feel free to be in touch as it may be possible to borrow one.

Tuesday 21st May 7pm My Sour-Sweet Days by Mark Oakley (George Herbert and the journey of the soul)
Tuesday 25th June 7pm The Elder Race by Alwyn Marriage (confronting such difficult issues as over-population, dementia, self-sacrifice, and euthanasia, all set within a heart-warming story of escape, survival, and hope)
Tuesday 23rd July 7pm Surprised by Joy by CS Lewis (a memoir exploring the author’s journey from atheism to Christianity, detailing the “surprising” moments of joy that he experienced along the way
Tuesday 20th August 7pm Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh (themes of simplicity, solitude and caring for the soul)
Tuesday 24th September 1pm (lunchtime, due to darkening evenings) The Spiral Staircase by Karen Armstrong (grapples with the issue of how we can be religious in the contemporary world, and the place and possibility of belief in the 21st century)
Additionally, alongside the monthly book choice, we will aim to discuss ideas from Common Sense Spirituality by David Steindl-Rast (meditations reflecting, what the author calls, “the spiritual work of our time”,cultivating grateful living, the key to joy)
