Part-Time Assistant Verger/s WantedSt Martha-on-the-HillWe are currently recruiting for one or possibly two part-time assistant Vergers to work to cover both Saturday and Sunday in a given week twice a month. (6 hours per day) to assist in ensuring the smooth running of this beautiful iconic pilgrim church.Situated in a unique position on one of the Surrey Hills near Guildford, St Martha’s is in a somewhat remote location, but does have limited vehicular access. The views from outside of the Church are stunning and because of this and the fact it is situated on the North Downs Way route between Winchester and Canterbury it receives many passing visitors. The Church holds weekly Sunday services, special services (funerals, weddings, and baptisms), along with music concerts, events. The assistant Verger’s role is rewarding and varied consisting of assisting with Church services, welcoming visitors, members of the Church community and pilgrims as well as keeping the Church clean and tidy. Additionally, helping with other roles such as serving at afternoon teas bars can also be important. As mentioned above the role requires weekend (Saturday and Sunday) commitment . However a degree of flexibility is essential as some of the services or events can happen at other times of the week plus holiday cover may be required. The rate of pay is £16 per hour. If you are interested please contact the Reverend David Oakden 07770 596503 or email revdavid@parishofchilworth.org.uk or text or call Helen (Church Warden) on 07710750909 , either of whom would be pleased to arrange for you to visit the church to discuss the post in detail.
