In our latest sermon in the Acts of the Apostles series, Revd. Mark Fletcher turns to Acts 14 and the dramatic scene at Lystra, where Paul and Barnabas heal a man lame from birth — only for the crowd to mistake them for gods. Their response is to lay the foundations of the gospel from the ground up: there is a God; the universe is no random accident; and we are made in his image, for relationship with him.

It is a message for our own age as much as for first-century Lystra. In a world of competing spiritualities that has, as G. K. Chesterton observed, come to "believe in anything", St Peter's hears again the foundational truths that make sense of life, love and beauty — and Pilate's haunting question, "What is truth?"
