All Souls’ Day is a Christian day of prayer and remembrance for the faithful departed, observed as part of the Allhallowtide season. It focuses on the spiritual bond between the living and those who have died, with traditions such as requiem masses, cemetery visits, and lighting candles symbolizing the hope of resurrection. The observance was formally established in 998 by Abbot Odilo of Cluny, spreading from monastic practice to churches worldwide.

If you would like the name of your loved one read out can you please add their name to the list at the back of St Swithun's church in Woodbury.
