The majority of the bells in the tower of St Andrew's, Feniton date from 1707 (5 of the 6). Since that time they have been rung on countless occasions; happy, sad and routine.
The current band of bellringers at St Andrew's has seen a resurgence of interest and major progress over the last few years. It is therefore very sad that, at the practice on Friday 23rd January 2026, an odd sound was noticed when bell no. 3 was rung. On first inspection, no immediate cause was noted, but a more detailed inspection later in the week by one of the Devonshire Guild of Church Bell Ringers' Bell Inspectors showed that the bell was, actually, cracked. This rendered it immediately unringable.
The remaining 5 bells will continue to be rung for services.
A report has been prepared for the PCC and once a plan is in place for the restoration of this bell and any associated works, we'll update you.
In the meantime, the Feniton bellringers will be visiting other local towers to continue their ringing.
