In the cathedral order of service it explains: "Deacons are ordained so that the people of God may be better equipped to make Christ known. Theirs is a life of visible self-giving." 

Gill will serve her curacy here with us at St Francis, working and training with Rev Julian, for the next three years. Keep an eye out for her as she cycles around the streets of the neighbourhood, getting to know people!

Following her ordination, Gill was welcomed by the St Francis family with an afternoon buffet which was enjoyed both in the lounge and spilling out into the sunshine in the garden. It was a lovely opportunity to spend time together, celebrating her arrival.

A few weeks in Gill adds:

"It's been such a joy to be come par to the Heartsease community over the past weeks. I've been overwhelmed by the warm welcome I've received and have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know so many people. Thank you to everyone who has made me feel so at home; your kindness and generosity have meant a great deal.

"My journey to ordained ministry was shaped by many wonderful people and places. My sending church was St Stephens, in Norwich, and during my training I served in the rural Benefice of Dickleburgh and the Pulhams.  I was also privileged to spend time at Priscilla Bacon Hospice and the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital.

"Before training for ministry, I worked in education as a teacher and senior leader. A particularly memorable year at Harford Manor, a specialist complex needs school, had a lasting impact on my understanding of compassion, inclusion and the unique value of every individual.

"Music has always been an important part of my life and faith. I enjoy playing the flute in local orchestras and in worship, and I love the way music brings people together and enriches our life with God. I am supported by my two young children, two much-loved cats and my wonderful Mum.

"I am delighted to part of the Heartsease family. I look forward to getting to know even more of you in the months ahead as we continue to worship, serve, and grow together."
