The Lord's Prayer (the "Our Father")

This is the prayer Jesus Christ taught his disciples.

Lord's Prayer traditional language

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;

thy kingdom come;

thy will be done;

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation;

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

the power, and the glory

for ever and ever.

Amen.

Lord's Prayer modern language

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours

now and for ever.

Amen.

Prayers for protection and peace

An evening prayer for aid against all perils

Lighten our darkness,
Lord, we pray,
and in your great mercy
defend us from all perils and dangers of this night,
for the love of your only Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.

St Patrick's Breastplate

Christ be with me: Christ within me;

Christ before me: Christ behind me;

Christ on my right: Christ on my left;

Christ above me: Christ beneath me;

Christ around me: now and ever.

I bind unto myself the name,

the strong name of the Trinity;

by invocation of the same,

the Three in One and One in Three.

Of whom all nature hath creation,

Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:

praise the Lord of my salvation,

salvation is of Christ the Lord.  Amen.
