3th March, 2025: Piliers arrive Drilling rig ascends the Church Path (the tipper truck gives a helping hand!) and begins drilling 5.5 metres beside the church – 2 metres before the chalk bedrock is reached! x 2 piles. Cardboard tube liners filled with concrete. 5th March: ground prepared for the concrete beam. Old drains removed – broken and blocked. Below appeared to be a brick soakaway. Existing clay pipe laid on a path of bricks! The ground was very wet and some slow worms, a newt and a toad where released! A repair had been undertaken to the side of the North Aisle with a mixture of flints, chalk and broken bricks set in a very strong mortar to the depth of 50 CMS / ½ a metre. 6th March: installation of the concrete beam under the corner of the church. Acro props where installed under the North Aisle west corner. The church is resting on solid chalk. A cage of metal was constructed and treaded through the arco props on to a corrugated cardboard platform covered with polythene shuttered with corriflute. The trench beside was backfilled. Finally concrete was poured in and tampered. 7th March: Clearing up and laying new plastic drains. Without a tipper truck, drilling machine and a digger this job would have taken a great deal of time and energy especially ascending the Church Path. The workmen mentioned how well they had slept with all the walking up and down!
The North Aisle Stabilization project begins on our 650 year old church with a commanding view over Ibberton Village and the Blackmore Vale. Thank you very much to the granting bodies below who have made this project possible. We are also very grateful to our Local Community who have generously made financial gifts. 29th January: Contractors arrived Compound constructed at the Village Hall – water collected from here and transported up to the church!All materials have to be transported up to the church in a 4-wheeled drive vehicle. The building is protected inside. Safety works platform constructed Drilling begins at lower levels of the smaller wall – an electrical powered drill with a water input.Some solid stone core but an infill of smaller stones – slowing down the process – especially when dealing with the flints Installed into the holes are the cintex anchors with a fabric net over the metal with a plastic tube on the outside end. 6th February: Scaffold arrives – difficult installation when using a front wheeled vehicle! Higher level drilling now possible. 10th February: Structural engineer arrives to mark out the smaller anchors to tie the inside to the outside wall13th / 14th February: the cintec anchors fabric bags are inflated with a mortar, under pressure, into the tubes 17th February ongoing: Installation of the long wall anchors
