Our Building
St. Andrew's is a Grade II* listed building meaning that it is particularly important and of more than special interest. The listing includes the building itself together with the interior fittings, furniture and the Lych Gate. The architect, Richard Cromwell Carpenter was well established with a London practice by the time the church was designed in 1848 and he later went on to oversee the restoration of Sherborne Abbey. Rather unusually for this part of the world the church is topped by an impressive spire and the whole building makes a strong Gothic Revival statement. Inside there are the stained glass windows and some elaborate carved oak furniture to see.
There are a total of fifteen wonderful stained glass windows from some of the most well respected Victorian makers. The chancel windows date from 1856 and those in the nave mostly from 1875.
