Plough Sunday
We shall be holding a PLOUGH SUNDAY service on Sunday 15th January in Loders Village Hall. This is a very ancient festival, revived by the Victorians. Traditionally it is celebrated on the first Sunday after Epiphany, January 6th. Often the plough was decorated and drawn through the streets to be blessed in church along with the seed to be sown. This was thought to ensure food for the coming year. The following day, Plough Monday, was the first day that work in the fields recommenced after Christmas. We plan to compromise by being in the Hall. ◆ 12.00 Coffee ◆ 12.30 Plough Sunday Service ◆ 1.15 Ploughmans Lunch Everyone is really welcome to join us in this traditional start of the farming (and horticultural) year.
