St Martin's Church, Barholm-with-Stowe

Dear Friends,

Thank you for taking an interest in the Church of St Martin of Tours, Barholm-with-Stowe.

Our next service in St Martin's Church, Barholm with Stowe will be on Sunday 3rd May at 6pm.

Fr Aran will lead us in an Evening Prayer Service for the Fifth Sunday of Easter.

The Fifth Sunday of Easter is part of the Easter season, a period of 50 days celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus. The readings for this Sunday will focus on the growth of the early Church, the work of the apostles, and the call to live in faith and love.

After which a thoughtful homily will be given by Fr Aran, Priest of our Seven Villages.

You will be warmly welcomed at the door by James and David, given a Traditional (BCP) Order of Service booklet to follow along with a Hymn Book.

With love, and hope to see you soon,

Carole x

Christians have worshipped in the churches of our group for more than 900 years and we are delighted that you are researching and considering coming along to share in the tradition of Evensong from the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) 1662 at St Martin's, Barholm with Stowe.

The heart of Evensong is the reading of Scripture.

The service that surrounds it is intended to prepare us to hear God’s word and to be able to respond to it with praise.

Its traditional or archaic language may help us to put aside the pressures of our lives as we enter into a tradition that has sustained Christians in England since the 17th Century.

If you are new to this style of worship or unfamiliar with the language, then let us put you at ease. You will be welcomed at the door by a member of our congregation and given all that you need for the service. In our Order of Service we have tried to include sufficient instructions to help you take part in the service, alternatively if you’d rather sit and listen then you’re very welcome to be still and let the music and words wash over you.

However you join in, we pray that you sense the presence and love of God.
