Bible Sunday 29th October 2023

The last Sunday after Trinity is designated in the calendar of the Church of England as Bible Sunday; a day where we give thanks for the Bible and reflect on how the age-old words still relate to us and help us in a life of faith today.

As of September 2023 all of the Bible has been translated into 736 languages, the New Testament has been translated into an additional 1,658 languages, and smaller portions of the Bible have been translated into 1,264 other languages according to Bible translators, Wycliffe Global Alliance. Being able to read and study the Bible in our mother tongue or heart language is important so that we can fully understand and apply the Word to our daily lives.

Tanrı'nın her sözü güvenilirdir, O kendisine sığınan herkese kalkandır.

Збувається кожне слово Бога, Він служить щитом кожному,

Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Proverbs 30 verse 5

Blessed Lord,

who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning:

help us so to hear them,

to read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them

that, through patience, and the comfort of your holy word,

we may embrace and for ever hold fast the hope of everlasting life,

which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

The Word of God is a precious gift, filled with wisdom, love, and guidance. Let's not just seek it out on Sundays but make it a part of our daily lives.

Amen.
