About Us

WELCOME to Stockton Country Parish - A group of churches covering a diverse rural area between Darlington and Stockton, encompassing Redmarshall, Bishopton, Thorpe Thewles, Stillington, Great Stainton and Wyndard.

We are in the process of changing and working out how we best witness to the life changing love of God found in Jesus Christ as we look to the future.

To support us, Reverend Lindsay Southern, an Interim Change Minister with Durham Diocese, is working with us from April 2026 until December 2027 when we hope to appoint a new Vicar.

Reverend Lindsay Southern, Interim Change Minister, the PCC (Parish Church Council) and congregations of St John’s, St James’, St Peter’s and St Cuthbert’s will be focusing their energy on the following priorities:

•Work with the PCC, congregation and community to establish regular weekly worship in one location, fostering a healthy, flourishing church.

•Help the parish come to terms with loss and closure of buildings.

•Encourage good working relationships with both C of E Primary Schools.

•Work with the congregation and community to discern the vision for the future of mission and ministry in the Country Parish.

•Build and trial a missional plan for reaching into every community in the parish.

We'll be holding community conversations and meetings about these changes regularly throughout 2026 & 2027

In the meantime we are also doing lots of regular parish church things - worship, prayer, discipleship, baptisms, weddings, funerals.

From November 29th 2026 - the start of Advent - the church congregation will be meeting together for Sunday worship at St John's Stillington for a 10am service - please do come along!

If the church can support and encourage you in any way - or if you'd like to support and encourage the church, please get in touch with us.
