About Us

Northmoor Team Ministry is a large rural multi-parish group within the Church of England Diocese of Exeter. We are spread out from the North-Western edge of Dartmoor National Park.

Even though we are a large team, we keep things local. The parish is where it’s at, and we have ministers with special responsibility for smaller parish groups.

Vicars

Rev’d Leigh Winsbury is the main vicar for the Northern end of the team (Hatherleigh, Exbourne, Jacobstowe, Northlew, Meeth).

Rev’d Adrian Brook is the main vicar for the South-Western parishes (Lydford, Sourton, Bridestowe, Bratton Clovelly, Germansweek).

Rev’d Stephen Cook is the Team Rector - an experienced vicar with overall responsibility for the whole team. His special focus is Okehampton, Inwardleigh, and Belstone with Sticklepath.

Rev’d Gill George is the team curate - a vicar working with other ministers before taking on a parish of her own.  Gill has a remit for large rural multi-parish ministry and covers the whole of the team parishes.

In June the team will have a new curate - Rev’d Jonathan Cook - and he will be based mainly with Rev’d Leigh Winsbury for a while.

So much more

But the vicars are only a tiny part of the ‘team’ - we have a whole host of others who offer ministry in various ways, including Licenced Lay Ministers (formerly known as ‘Readers’), Administrators in each area, retired vicars, and people in the pews who are encouraged to bring their God-given gifts in many ways, including leading some services.

Being such a large group has its benefits for those who live here. Perhaps the easiest example is if a parishioner is eligible to get married here, they have the pick of any of our churches.  It also means we have vicars who are happy to conduct Prayers of Love and Faith (“Same-Sex Blessings”) at multiple locations within the team.

Key people are our Administrators - they are usually the first point of contact and can signpost regarding who best to contact or answer your query.  You are also welcome to phone or email any of the vicars directly - they will be glad to hear from you.

Lots of the events you see going on are a mix of “secular” and “church” - that is because we are embedded in our local communities and it is well-known that physical and spiritual wellbeing go hand in hand.
