The Parish of Portsdown and Purbrook

In 2024, the two individual parishes of Portsdown and Purbrook merged together. The newly-formed parish consists of two churches, Christ Church and St John’s. You will receive a warm welcome at both churches, which have a distinctly different feel, offering something for everyone.

Christ Church Portsdown

We are a friendly, evangelical, Church of England church who have been serving the Widley, Purbrook and Cosham area on the edge of Portsmouth for almost 150 years. Our services are a relaxed mix of contemporary and traditional worship, to which all are welcome.

The church has many historic military links and the annual D-Day memorial service is an important date in the year. There is also a military cemetery in the churchyard.

St John the Baptist Purbrook

We are a traditional Anglican church in the centre of Purbrook.

We have a church hall available for hire and have restarted a fortnightly cafe on 2nd & 4th Saturday mornings. Do drop in – you are guaranteed a warm welcome!
